Intro
Surgical airway.
Preferred to tracheostomy.
Use transtracheal
ventilation if unfamiliar.
Method
Clean skin over thyroid and cricoid cartilages.
Feel for thyroid cartilage, feel cricoid ring.
Firm pressure with non-dominant hand to immobilise the larynx.
Horizontal incision through membrane.
Insert scalpel handel, rotate at 90d.
- or pair of artery forceps in two directions.
Insert largest possible ET tube, 6mm for adults, 3 for children.
Attach self-inflating bag.
